Curriculum

RM Math Framework Edition includes a dynamic and highly visual standards-aligned curriculum, in a template course written to address the learning standards at Grades 6 through Grade 8. The curriculum can be used as a core or supplementary resource for your middle school math program, and can also provide very effective support for Elementary and High School math programs.

The template course consists of more than 2,000 math activities and content pieces which are organized by the main NCTM strands, and then by topic area within each strand. All of the activities within the curriculum are tagged to individual State-based learning standards.

An Introduction to the Curriculum

All of the materials within the RM Math Framework Edition curriculum are organized in a template course. As already noted, the curriculum contains a wide variety of resources designed to help you to delivery fast-paced, highly visual and highly engaging math lessons. Below are some examples of activities from the curriculum.

Simplification Activity

In this activity, students group the like terms by 'dragging' elements of the expression using the interactive whiteboard. The kinesthetic nature of this activity is designed to replicate and reinforce the mental steps students must take in order to simplify expressions.

Dice Simulation Tool

This is a dynamic tool that can greatly aid the teaching of probability and which enables students to move quickly through comparison of experimental and theoretical probability.

Calculating Angles

Elements of the RM Math Framework Edition curriculum are written in Geometer’s Sketchpad, a powerful geometry tool. A site license for Geometer's Sketchpad, and over 100 pre-written activities, are included with RM Math Framework Edition.

Geometer’s Sketchpad can greatly simplify the teaching of geometric principles and aid student understanding and retention.

Sink The Sub

The RM Math Framework Edition curriculum includes a large number of stimulating math games which help to reinforce learning and greatly aid retention. They also make math fun! In this activity, students need to make square root calculations to prevent the Sub from breaching the sea defenses.

Unfolding A Cylinder

A range of 'virtual manipulatives' within the curriculum can provide significant time economies and greatly aid visual learners.

Exterior Angles Of Polygons

In this GSP activity, students can 'prove' the rule of exterior angles by manipulating the polygon shape. Additional pages provide further shapes options.

Student Notes

Comprehensive Student Notes within the curriculum summarize all of the key topics. These are written in Word and so can be customized for different student groups.

3D Shape Builder

This dynamic tool, one of a large number of 'virtual' manipulatives, can supplement or replace work you are currently doing with physical manipulatives such as interlocking cubes.
